P4 : Describe the action taken to reduce risks to security whilst using the internet for different types of business activities.

HOW TO REDUCE RISKS?

Business chance is a developing concern, particularly in the present economy. Entrepreneurs need to take control of their organisations, evaluate the dangers inborn in both their organisations and ventures and decide how to best decrease these dangers. Hazard can be security related, budgetary or operational. Be that as it may, for every potential hazard, a compelling arrangement of inside controls can be actualised to lessen chance.

Why Data Security is important?

Data security is important to all new and existing business. While working on the web it is fundamental that an organisation to have right safety efforts being set up to protect themselves and their customers from hackers or spyware. Issues that businesses commonly deal with includes viruses, trojans, worms, loss of data, identify theft and internal security threats. Its because the internet provides an unrivalled level of freedom, which unfortunately can lead some individuals to act in ways they would not in public.

Secure your computer and devices

Small pieces of software known as malware or viruses can infect your computers, laptops and mobile devices. Install security software on your business computers and devices to help prevent infection and ensure it includes anti-virus, anti-spy ware and anti-spam filters. Make sure that you set your security software to update automatically as updates may contain important security upgrades based on recent viruses and attacks.

Set up firewall security to protect your internal networks. Remember to install the firewall on all your portable business devices and keep them updated and patched to prevent threats entering your network.

Firewalls assist in blocking dangerous programs, viruses or spyware before they infiltrate your system. Various software companies offer firewall protection, but hardware-based firewalls, like those frequently built into network routers, provide a better level of security.
This means that none is going to be able to get any information off the computer.

Information backed up

Backing up your business’s data and website may help you recover what you’ve lost in the event of an attack. It’s essential that you regularly back up your important data and information, from financial records and business plans to customer records and personal information. This will lessen the damage in the event of a breach or computer problem. Fortunately, backing up your data is generally cost-effective and easy.

Store portable devices separately offsite and do not leave them connected to the computer as they can also be infected from a cyber-attack. Having a copy of your data in a separate location will let you recover information quickly and easily in the event of any data loss.
Smart password practices

Figure 4
Strong, frequently changed passwords are a crucial part of an Internet security plan. When you create accounts for websites or applications that use the Internet, choose strong passwords that are difficult to guess or break by including a variety of characters and using both capital and lowercase letters. Change passwords often and tell your employees to follow suit; if they have difficulty following through, enact a specific company policy.

Increase security would be to keep updating your software and all passwords. This is going to increase security because it means that its going to be harder for people to find out your passwords if they keep changing. Its also important to keep your security software updated as this is going to keep it all up to date meaning that the protection is just going to keep getting better and stronger.
